About the creator

I remember, since I was a small child, my mother - when she had finished the housework and had put the food on to cook - I remember her making a nice coffee, hot or cold depending on the season, sitting on a chair, pulling aside the curtain of the balcony door so that plenty of light could come in, and doing one of two things: either reading a literature book or cross stitch embroidering. That was her pastime, her companion during the hours she would be alone until my father returned from work. Usually accompanied by music from tapes or the radio.

In reality, she had loved reading and embroidery since she was young - also home decoration a lot. And when she got married, she stopped working and had more free time available for it. The years went by, I grew up, we all grew up - and we still are, thankfully. Eventually, I was not at home to go and buy her the embroidery floss she wanted. But that sweet, engaging habit remained. It was always something so creative in her life. Especially when she reached a point where she could create her own designs - intricate designs that required countless hours of work, counting the boxes for the cross-stitch, combining the colors of floss etc. And all of it was guided by her imagination and experience.

My mother continues her hobby with love even today, after more than 70 years, having completed over 200 cross-stitch embroideries.

She has never asked for her work to be presented. She has been always modest and very discreet. She values the power, directness, and liveliness of the spoken voice and communication. She doesn't use social media and similar things. However, I did try to change that a little since I think that her artistic work is outstanding and deserves greater exposure.
